She had Come Further Than She Thought

She had come further than she thought . . .

If you are like me, we expect MORE from ourselves than we expect out of almost anyone else. This can put us in a cycle of never feeling like we are “enough” and constantly trying to rush through the next step to get where we think we “should” be.

I was in that cycle for a long time. Until I started looking at my business from a different perspective.

Now that I have a system in place, I share it with my clients and now they are seeing a difference too. We are seeing how far they have come and THAT is making all of the difference in getting to where they want to go faster.

Let me give you a bit of context here so you see what I mean exactly:

Every month I review the Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) with my clients. These are key data points that make the evaluation of progress more objective and less subjective. Most ambitious entrepreneurs ONLY ever evaluate where they are HEADED and almost never give themselves any credit about where they have been and WHY.

We talk about things like sales (obviously, can’t have a business without income coming in), current / ongoing offers being delivered, offers about to be opened and marketed (this is the 30,000 foot view, we drill down in to the granular pieces of actually writing the sales copy for emails, posts, ads, webinar slides and sales pages during our implementation sessions), and support around each of these KPI’s (emotional and physical health as well as as hiring key team members . . . because success in business while your life falls apart is not success at all).

As you may know, I have run my own business since 1996 and made my first million by the time I was 25 years old. That year I had bought my mom a house, a fancy car and traveled to exotic destinations for weekend getaways. Looking back at that time though, it was not JOYFUL. It was hard. I was struggling emotionally, and physically to “hold it all together”.

The truth: back then I was doing ‘it’ for other people.

I wanted to show ‘them’ that I COULD and that I was ‘worth it’.

My problem: I thought if I was successful enough from the outside that the inside would take care of itself.

What I found after years of working at light speed and then finally taking time for myself is that JOY always always always is from within.

HOW is the big question.

Well, for me, I used to think I needed more time to spend on my business and then take stretches of time off so that I could focus on myself.

I found that when I thought like that, lots of things would get put on the back burner and I would find a reason to “not get to it”.

Call it resistance, call it the “convenience of a reason”, or just call it procrastination, the result was. . . NO progress.

This brings me back to “She had come further than she thought”.

This one client arrived at our regularly scheduled virtual meeting and the first thing she says (sort of like she was confessing) is alllll of the things that she DIDN’T do.

Have you ever done that? I have.

I’ve looked at what I had set out to accomplish and ALL I used to see is what’s NOT done. . . instead of everything I DID do.

Can you relate?

Have you looked in the mirror and saw only the flaws. . . instead of all the ways that you’re beautiful and strong.

Have you looked at your home and only saw what’s missing. . . instead of all of the love it holds.

It’s okay if you have. . . we ALL have that tendency. . . it takes mental practice to see things differently.

Back to the client meeting:

I say to this particular client “First, stop beating yourself up” and then I pull out the KPI sheet we have been using.

Here is what it showed us:

Sales:

She had created, launched, and sold a totally new program to meet the demands of her audience who couldn’t afford her 1:1.

Her focus had been more VIP Days (which start at 4 figures) so she wanted to get on more sales calls. And in the last month, she had been on 5X more sales calls than in the entire last quarter combined!!

Delivery:

She is finishing up delivering one group program and doing EXIT interviews for the FIRST time opening the door to more testimonials and offering continued support via email and quarterly reviews (hello to a new monthly recurring revenue stream that ISN’T a membership!)

Marketing:

She finally has a consistent marketing plan that she has executed every.single.week. This type of consistency (marketing for her OWN business) is a HUGE milestone for her. See, her specialty IS marketing. She is brilliant at it. But she kept putting her own business on the back burner. Now, with accountability and private coaching she has been more consistent for the longest amount of time ever (and it’s paying off).

She has a long-term plan in place and it’s getting implemented so that ONE piece of content (I call this Anchor Content) can now be syndicated across social platforms, YouTube, it becomes her podcast, her email, blog post, published articles and even chapters in her next book!

*After working with lots of smart marketers I created a system for myself called Leverage Like a Mutha’ (ha ha — yes, the next step after my Sell Like a Mutha’ program).

Org Chart:

With grace, kindness, and no bad feelings she was able to remove herself from a business partnership that had become an emotional and financial drain.

She brought on a key team member who is able to work inside of her business on money-generating activities freeing her up to take two beach excursions with her family (open-air and water are fabulous for the soul). This contributed to her emotional and physical health too!!

Expenses:

Looking expenses in the eye and not shaming herself for what she has or has not spent allows her to be objective and make cuts where necessary leaving more room for more of what she wants.

Paying herself. For the first time she is looking at cutting herself a paycheck from her company.

Can you see the difference in perspective from before and after our meeting?

This is what measuring KPI’s can do.

Combine that with someone who has “been there” and can show you the way, and that can be a winning combination.

It is literally the joy of my heart to be able to guide smart business-women in this way.

I choose progress over perfection any day! If you do too. . . we should hang out more!
